What are the

MMRDA & MMRC proposing at aarey?

What are the impacts of the project?

What can i do to help save aarey?

What are the MMRDA & MMRC proposing?

  • The MMRDA (Mumbai Metropoliton Regional Development Authority) & the MMRC (Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation) are proposing to build a metro car shed as part of the metro development project at Aarey Milk Colony

  • This project will take around 28 - 33 hectares of land

  • It will lead to the uprooting of 3500+ trees and the destruction of sensitive ecosystems

  • It will also require the widening of roads - which will uproot 1000+ other trees

  • Once the shed is developed, there are other plans lying in wait such as the building of a 200 acre zoo & residential zones that will eat up our green treasure.

  • Yes, we need and want a functioning metro system in Mumbai

  • However, there are 7 alternate sites the authorities are not taking into consideration that do not impact our forests: Backbay, Mahalaxmi, Kalina, BKC, Kanjurmarg, Dharavi, and MDC Seepz

  • Documents accessed through a right-to-information (RTI) query revealed that alternate locations in the city had been identified for the construction of a car shed for the Metro-3 project. However, metro authorities decided to stick to Aarey. (source)

But don't we need a metro in Mumbai?

What are the impacts of the Aarey metro shed project?

Time's running out

Everyday we don't speak up is precious time lost.
